We're celebrating with a special evening of words and music in the beautiful Sacred Heart Chapel. Entertainment includes gypsy tango music by Cosmo Cosmolino, the wonderful Surik Timorese Performance Group, a rendition of "La Traviata" and a performance based on the novel by actor Marion Heathfield. Is de Beauvoir's work still relevant to Australian women today? Jocelynne Scutt and Dur-e Dara host a "salon-style" evening with Trust members sharing their perspectives on the book and how it changed their lives. This will be a stimulating, fun, feminist discussion over wine & cheese. Friday 8 Oct, 6pm - Getting Equal South Melbourne Town Hall, 208 Bank St, South Melbourne - The launch of Professor Marilyn Lake's new history of Australian feminism. This is a night to celebrate the women's movement in Australia! Speakers include Marilyn (of course), plus Ramona Koval and Merle Thornton with entertainment by Kavisha Mazella. We hope this night will be something of a feminist "reunion" so please spread the word! Tickets to all events are $15 or $10 concession, with discounts if you attend more than one event. Evelyn has been active in the women's movement in Dublin since the 1970s and is appearing at the Melbourne Writers' Festival to speak on contemporary irish literature. BUSINESS MATRIX Set in the heart of Fitzroy, Business Matrix is Australia's first women-focussed business incubator. It provides business premises and support to women in small business. Current tenants include town planners, media consultants, a graphic designer, writers, researchers and solicitors.
