Dear Friends,

The Women's Trust is presenting a terrific lineup of events in the series
"Women, Words & Wit". I'm writing to let you know some details - and in the
hope that you'll pass this info on to your friends!

Oh, and please - book early! The Italian Cultural Visit next Thursday is
already booked out and we expect these events to fill up very quickly, too.

Any queries - please give me a call on 9642 0422 or hit "reply"!

Wishing you all a happy and relaxing weekend,

Women, Words & Wit

Thursday 9 Sept, 7pm - Republic of Women
Sacred Heart Mission, 87 Grey Street, St Kilda
- Merrill Findlay's novel "Republic of Women" has recently been published
and is making waves in literary circles. We're celebrating with a special
evening of words and music in the beautiful Sacred Heart Chapel.
Entertainment includes gypsy tango music by Cosmo Cosmolino, the wonderful
Surik Timorese Performance Group, a rendition of "La Traviata" and a
performance based on the novel by actor Marion Heathfield. For more details
visit http://www.merrillfindlay.com

Thursday 16 Sept, 7pm - Simone de Beauvoir's Daughters
Booth Lounge, YWCA, 489 Elizabeth Street, City
- It's 50 years since Simone de Beauvoir published her landmark feminist
text, "The Second Sex". Is de Beauvoir's work still relevant to Australian
women today? Jocelynne Scutt and Dur-e Dara host a "salon-style" evening
with Trust members sharing their perspectives on the book and how it changed
their lives. This will be a stimulating, fun, feminist discussion over wine
& cheese.

Friday 8 Oct, 6pm - Getting Equal
South Melbourne Town Hall, 208 Bank St, South Melbourne
- The launch of Professor Marilyn Lake's new history of Australian feminism.
This is a night to celebrate the women's movement in Australia! Speakers
include Marilyn (of course), plus Ramona Koval and Merle Thornton with
entertainment by Kavisha Mazella. We hope this night will be something of a
feminist "reunion" so please spread the word!

Tickets to all events are $15 or $10 concession, with discounts if you
attend more than one event. All prices include light refreshments. For
bookings, phone (03) 9642 0422.
