To interested women,
From July 10th to 14th this year Flinders University will be hosting the
NOWSA conference. The Network of Women Students conference is an annual
gathering of women from across Australia, held in a different city each year.
The aims of the Network of Women Students include the exchange of
information and the sharing of resources, the facilitation of joint
campaign work, the provision of a national perspective of the feminist
student movement, the promotion of contact between women's groups and
campus women's organisers, and the opportunity for skills training and
communication between active women.
In an effort to be more inclusive the organisers of this year's conference
have decided to make a call for speakers before deciding on plenary topics.
In this way, those who are intending to speak will be able to take an
active role in deciding the direction of the conference, rather than being
instructed as to what they will speak about.
As such we are now calling for submissions from students and interested
women across the country. We hope to reach these women through university
departments, student associations, women's groups and community groups. We
would appreciate if the accompanying flyer could be displayed in some
prominent place, and if you would help in the dissemination of information
about the conference. We are asking for submissions of between 300 and 500
words explaining what you would like to talk about, and why, accompanied by
contact details. These should be forwarded to the NOWSA Collective (contact
details below) by Friday April 7th, 2000.
These will then be collated into plenaries and feminars, thus giving those
who wish to speak at the conference a more direct involvement in the
organisation of the conference.
