conference is
a greast opportunity to argue out the many debates about how we can change the
world.
The conference is opening on August 11th, with a public meeting featuring
prominent aboriginal activist Isabell Coe, speaking on the ongoing fight for
aboriginal rights. (7.30pm, New International Bookshop, Trades Hall.)
On Saturday 12th of August, from 10am to 6pm, there will be a day of
debate and
discussion, with sessions covering a huge range of topics.
some of the sessions include:
- Back to the Fifties: why John Howard is so keen on motherhood.
- New Tactics for New Times?: What socialists say about culture jamming,
internet activism, affinity groups and non-violent civil disobediance.
- Responses to globalisation: A forum with Andrew Scott, labour movement
researcher; Eve Bodsworth, ALP left activist; and Socialist Alternatives Geoff
Boucher.
- Fighting Racism: can whites play a role in the struggle for aboriginal
rights?
are all whites, including the left, inevitably tainted by racism? Dianne Fields
will examine the issues.
- Organising the 'new economy': young white collar workers speak out.
