EMERGENCY PUBLIC MEETING
IN SUPPORT OF THE YALLOURN
POWER WORKERS

On December 14th a mass meeting of Yallourn Power Workers will be deciding
to accept or reject an Enterprise Bargaining Agreement drawn up by the company.

The leadership of the CFMEU in the Latrobe Valley is recommending that
their members reject the agreement and carry out an industrial and legal
campaign to maintain their wages and conditions.

If the British multinational company PowerGen suceeds in intimidating the
Yallourn workforce into accepting their draconian EBA it will significantly
weaken the unions ability to fight.

The timing of this latest attack is an attempt by PowerGen to break the
back of the unions so when the community is hit with rising power prices
they have lost one of their chief allies.

The coming deregulation of power prices will mean that the Victorian
community will be hit with significant increases in their power bills.

By showing your support for the Yallourn Power Workers it will help give
the rank & file the confidence to reject the agreement and launch into a
union and community campaign which wins the fight to stop further job
losses and cuts to wages and conditions.

The Yallourn Power workers have been involved in every significant union
and community campaign for the last 20 years from actively fighting
privatisation to the MUA dispute.

By supporting these workers now they will be in strong position to support
the necessary union and community campaign to stop the increase in power
prices. In the long term we know that only way to solve many of the key
issue at hand is by returning the power industry back into public hands.

Speakers: Luke Van Der Meulen (CFMEU), Simon Millar (CFMEU jobs & community
campaign), Ken Mooney (Public First), Andrea Sharam (Energy Action Group)

Wednesday 13th of December

7pm at the YWCA 489 Elizabeth St Melbourne
