People on leftlink may be interested in a symposium discussing changes to
defamation law that would prevent the rich and powerful from silencing
protest groups, whistleblowers, etc. It's being organised by Free Speech
Vic together with a number of other groups including Liberty Vic and the
Wilderness Society. Speakers include Wendy Bacon, journalist and academic,
Chris McLeod, Herald & Weekly Times, and Ross Duncan, ABC senior lawyer.
There will also be a session where people who have experienced 'slap' writs
will speak. Plenty of time for questions and discussion.
