An Extraordinary General Meeting is being called by the shareholders of the
ABC - yes, that's us, the Australian community.
Mr. Donald McDonald and the ABC board have been invited to attend.
Speakers include Seachange's John Howard, Rev. Bill Crewes, Peter Baume,
Barry Jones, shareholder activist Stephen Mayne and Rod Quantock as MC.
Details of other speakers will be added to the Friends of the Friends of the
ABC website closer to the event.
Venue: Sydney Opera House Stairs and Forecourt
Date: Sunday 29th April 200l
Time: 11 am until 1pm
The event will go ahead, come rain or shine.
Bring cushions and sunscreen.
Tell your friends, neighbours and workmates - bring 10 of them along with
you. Make your own signs. Send a message to Canberra.

WHY ARE WE HOLDING THIS EVENT?
* To campaign for a truly independent ABC, and to end the politicisation of
the ABC board.
* In the leadup to the Federal Budget to ensure the ABC becomes a priority
for funding in the budget. We are lobbying for the proper resourcing of the
ABC, for programs and people, not just the funds Mr. Shier may have been
promised for his new projects.
* To assess Jonathan Shier's first year. Staff redundancies continue at an
alarming rate, television production is being wound down and the key
platform for reform has not been implemented. Beyond the media grabs, what
actually has been achieved and what is really going on?
* To assess the performance of Donald McDonald and his board - CEOs can come
and go, it is the McDonald board who are responsible for much causing
concern in the community.
* To send a message to Canberra (all parties) that the ABC IS an election
issue.
I CAN'T COME TO THE EVENT - WHAT CAN I DO?
You can do a lot in your local area. Ring your local radio station and make
funding the ABC an issue. Organise a photo story in your local or suburban
newspaper.
Organise a delegation and make an appointment today to visit your local
member. . .and get your local paper to come along with a photographer!!
