REFUGEE ACTION COLLECTIVE (VIC) has been campaigning for the rights of
refugees & to close Australia's detention centres. From taking direct
action, organising public meetings, campaigning stalls & other protests-
RAC is building the campaign for justice.
Now RAC is holding its inaugural WESTERN SUBURBS meeting. This is a call
to all those in the Western suburbs community of Melbourne
who consider inhuman and unjust the government treatment of asylum
seekers. RAC (WEST) will particularly target the Maribyrnong detention
centre, the concentration camp on our doorstep, and particularly aim to
win more people from the western region to actively stand up for refugee
rights.
The meeting will include a brainstorm session about RAC (WEST) future
activities... some ideas that have been floated so far include:
- (my personal favourite from jorge) "dob in a ruddock" phone
campaign. Call DIMA's 131881 number, go to the section to "report
illeagals" and report Ruddock & demand he be expelled from the
country!
- a local footscray rally for refugee rights
- a rock against racism outside maribyrong detention centre
- a rally & eviction notice served on Australasin Correctional
Management & Maribyrnong detention centre
and of course how we can build the June 3rd National Day of Action.
