Hello, We are very pleased to announce important new and updated online resources on global issues at New Internationalist Online. To review them, please visit www.newint.org <http://www.newint.org/> and choose "What's New?" or else follow the direct links below.
1) Peace Movement Response to US Terror. Read it at www.newint.org/streets/usterror/index.html <http://www.newint.org/streets/usterror/index.html> Across the world a new peace movement is growing, firmly saying no to both war and racism. New Internationalist reports on a peace rally for which 50,000 people converged on London. 2) Twin Terrors. Read it at www.newint.org/issue340/title340.htm <http://www.newint.org/issue340/title340.htm> The suicidal attacks on America were not acts of war but crimes against humanity. The New Internationalist argues for legal justice rather than military retribution; for economic justice rather than ever-increasing inequality. 3) Global Resistance We are everywhere Read it at www.newint.org/issue338/title338.htm <http://www.newint.org/issue338/title338.htm> >From Seattle to Soweto, from Bangkok to Bangalore, people's movements are on the streets to take back democracy, and to declare that 'we are a people, not a market, and our world is not for sale'. In response to the rapid consolidation of wealth and power under economic globalization, an international network of resistance is emerging. 4) The burden of slavery Read it at www.newint.org/issue337/title337.htm <http://www.newint.org/issue337/title337.htm> The Universal Declaration of Human Rights prohibits slavery absolutely. Yet there are more slaves today than there were at the height of the colonial slave trade. Modern slavery is a hydra-headed beast. New forms of entrapping people emerge all the time. In this special issue, New Internationalist joins forces with Anti-Slavery International the oldest human-rights organization in the world to highlight the efforts of some activists in the line of fire and map out ways the world could be finally rid of this curse.
