Dear all, Following the inspiration speech by RAWA activist Tahmeena Faryal during International Women's Day events, Greens MHA Peg Putt moved the motion below in the Tasmanian House of Assembly. It passed with unanimous support. (This is extra significant when considering that it means the State Liberals have voiced a somewhat different position to that expoused by Howard!) Ms Putt has obtained an official Parliamentary certificate of the motion signed by the Speaker of the house which will be sent to Tahmeena and RAWA. regards, Cath Hughes Office of Peg Putt MHA Tasmanian Greens Member for Denison Parliament House HOBART 7000 Ph: 03 6233 8300 Fax: 03 6223 1406 ----------------------- NOTICE OF MOTION Tuesday 12th March 2002 Ms Putt on tomorrow to move - That this House acknowledges that oppression of the people of Afghanistan will not cease by virtue of the transfer of power from the Taliban to the Northern Alliance and that further steps are necessary to attain a transition to democratic representation and government. Accordingly this House supports a United Nations supervised transition, requiring an increased presence of UN personnel and an augmented program in Afghanistan to set up and supervise free and fair democratic elections. . -- -- Leftlink - Australia's Broad Left Mailing List mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Archived at http://www.cat.org.au/lists/leftlink/ Sponsored by Melbourne's New International Bookshop Subscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Body=subscribe%20leftlink Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Body=unsubscribe%20leftlink
