Several hundred protesters massed outside the Israeli and United States
embassies yesterday, loudly protesting against the treatment of the
Palestinians and burning an effigy of Israeli Prime Minister Aerial Sharon.
Two busloads of protesters from Sydney joined others from Canberra to
mass at the Israeli embassy in Turrana Street, Yarralumla at midday. The
Chairman of the Nuclear Disarmament Party, Michael Denborough, said
George W. Bush was implicated in the terror in Palestine and Israel by
providing money and weapons to Israel.
But Australia's Prime Minister John Howard and Opposition Leader Simon
Crean were both guilty of inaction, he said.
Dr Denborough said the only solution was for the creation of a
Palestinian state with its capital in east Jerusalem, and the withdrawal
of Israeli forces from all Palestinian areas.
