Today, Monday 15th April, at Melbourne's Magistrates Court, Stephen
Jolly of the Socialist Party was found guilty of the offense of
hindering police at the S11 demonstrations in September 2000. The
serious charge of "without lawful excuse recklessly engage in conduct
that may have placed a police officer in danger of serious injury" was
dropped prior to the trial, as were two minor charges for obstruction.

Stephen was given no conviction and a 12 month good behaviour bond. The
police waited until early this year before proceeding the charges. This
had led to speculation about the timing, in the run-up to the Woomera
protest at Easter. A full report can be heard in the Trades Hall bar
after tomorrow nights SP meeting on Woomera at Trades Hall from 7pm-9pm.

Thanks to Robert Starey and his team for their legal support.
