RE: INSIDE THESE WALLS - CHRISTMAS CONCERTS INSIDE EVERY DETENTION CENTRE
IN AUSTRALIA on December 24, 2002, to benefit Refugees on Temporary
Protection Visas.
===================================================================

This document can be freely forwarded to your contacts. Please support us!
- details for donations are provided at the end of this email.

See also the attached flyer. If your email network does not allow
attachments, please see this page:

We are urgently looking for

- endorsements by your organisation - and individual endorsements;
- sponsors, both individually, collectively and corporate. Please see
details below to make a donation!
- artists of repute who are willing to contribute to the events.

We have started our call for artists and other relevant key players.

Significant recent developments:

1. Some Senior Federal Politicians, who have been vocal opponents of the
mandatory detention policies of the Federal government, have offered their
keenness to be involved in the project. It is likely that they, and quite
possibly several others, will be convenors/hosts of one of the Concerts in
a detention centre. They will be named at a later stage.

2. Clowns around Australia are linking with a view to establish several
receival centres for Christmas presents for asylum seekers and their
children. Groups of these Clowns will, during the concerts, present the
gifts of Australians to the detainees and their children. Amongst the
clowns may be the world renowned Patch Adams who is currently being briefed
about the events.

For more information about the Clowns for Refugees Appeal see:
http://www.safecom.org/clowns.htm

3. The Award-winning Film maker Paul Roberts (Land of the little Kings) has
offered to act as one of the producers in Western Australia. Mr. Michael
Angus, a producer from Sydney who was also invoved in the "Show Mercy"
Production, has agreed to do some production work on a local level in NSW,
while Jane Scott, who recently produced the "Show Mercy" concert for
refugees in Sydney, as well as "Shine" and "Crocodile Dundee", is helping
us 'behind the screens' on an almost daily basis. Other producers have also
expressed willingness to be involved.

4. Sydney-based 'Australians for Just Refugee Programs' have offered to
provide support in the Project. We requested their support because in their
short period since their establishment they have shown to be one of
Australia's most reputable Refugee Action Groups. See their website for a
line-up of Australians connected with them:

http://www.justrefugeeprograms.com.au/about/WhoFrameSet.htm

5. Initiatives are developing for the organisation of supporting and
fundraising Gigs for Refugees on December 24 in various capital cities and
towns around Australia. These Gigs would, if the project goes ahead, be
supported by (large screen) TV's at the venues, and proceeds would go to
refugees on Temporary Protection Visas. During all supporting events the
Show Mercy ribbon will be for sale. See the sample here:

http://www.westnet.com.au/jackhsmit/files/showmercy-ribbon.jpg

Australians for Just Refugee Programs have been asked take responsibility
to distribute the proceeds to the various refugee organisations around
Australia after the events.

6. Timeline:

- It is hoped that we have commitment from most major artists around
Australia by July 15, and that by that date we also have a first production
draft - with most key players in place.

- From July to September we hope to work on further development of the
local production teams, while our major task is seen as to secure the
involvement of one of Australia's Media organisations for a DIRECT,
AUSTRALIA-WIDE BROADCAST of the event. We plan to synchronise the starting
times and duration of the concerts across Australia's time zones, so that
satellite link-ups between the concerts are possible.

- The final keystone in our lobbying of the Media is to acquire a Phone
Room on December 24 so households around Australia can donate to the fund
for Refugees on Temporary Protection Visas by calling a number, and
following the tally on their television sets.

- With this in place we will lobby and persuade the agents responsible in
the Howard Government to secure full and unfettered access to the detention
centres.
