Welfare Not Warfare. Tell the politicians they can't get away with it!
In the 2002 budget the Federal Government has pledged to fund its war on
refugees by upping the price of medicine and cutting back on the disability
support pension. All while the billions of dollars given in tax breaks and
subsidies to corporations remain untouched. Regardless of you point of view
on the refugee issue and war in Afghanistan it is imperative that the
government not be allowed to penalise the most vulnerable in our society.
Under these plans the next five years will see the aged and those on low to
middle incomes struggling to pay for their medicines whilst 10 000s of
disabled people who are unable to jump through the new hoops are thrown off
their pensions.
The Labor Party, Greens and Democrats have all indicated they may block
sections of the budget in the senate. Whether they will or not remains to
be seen. In the meantime we need to put as much pressure on them as
possible. Email, call or write to your federal senators and their parties
today and let them know that attacking the chronically ill, jobless and
disabled is not a vote winner.
Welfare not Warfare.
