SUPPORT- RADIO STATION 3CR

CONDEMN- THE AMWU NATIONAL LEADERSHIP

On Friday 19th July 2002, we understand that Dave Oliver (AMWU Official)
read out a statement in the Federal Court explaining that the AMWU would be
withdrawing all funds from Community Radio Station 3CR.

The alleged reasons being that 3CR presenters and Victorian officials, who
were interviewed, had been condemning the actions of the National Council
in regards to the standing down of Brother Craig Johnston.
3CR has been the voice of the Victorian community for over 25 years and is
well known for putting forward alternative views on a range of issues.

3CR and in particular the 'On The Picket Line' show have never shied away
from a debate and have let numerous listeners and organisations put there
views forward on air if they have disagreed with our comments.

Yes the 'On The Picket Line' crew have condemned the National Council of
the AMWU but have also both publicly and privately invited the national
leadership onto the show to put their arguments forward.

We are calling on the national leadership of the AMWU to solve these issues
politically through debate, and are further condemning their underhanded
attempts to financially harm a community radio station that has
historically supported trade unionism and the interests of working people.

We are also calling on other activists to condemn the national leadership
of the AMWU and support 3CR by passing resolutions through their own trade
unions and community groups.

A sample resolution may read as below. -

The rank and file of _____________________ hereby formally condemn the
actions of the national leadership of the Australian Manufacturing Workers
Union, for withdrawing funds to community radio station 3CR. We are also
calling on them to immediately reverse their decision and recognise that
3CR is a community asset and that funding from trade unions is integral to
its survival.

Please ensure that copies of the resolution are sent to Doug Cameron
(National Secretary) via the National Office of the AMWU details as below -
