The Labor Government in Victoria has embraced turning schools,
hospitals, water management and municipal facilities etc into
opportunities for profiteers.
Instead of utilising the state's capacity to borrow cheaply to build the
community assets of the future, the Victorian government is paying
private investors to provide the investment - even though it costs
taxpayers more!
Private borrowing is always more expensive than public borrowing
The Victorian Government is trying to hide this more expensive borrowing
as it does not show up as debt in the state budget, but it is there as
payments taxpayers make to these private investors every year.
PPPs shift the cost onto future generations instead of sharing the
expense of long lived assets over a number of generations.
PPPs are like a very bad hire purchase deal!
The extra cost of private finance means cuts to services and jobs.
