Oh - you're referring to the Children's Settings List - I thought you were
referring to Family or Pedigree View.

There's no way to remove the asterisk in that list. By default, it's the
first child you enter and can be changed if you have a different child in
that line as "preferred". Normally that's the child that would be in your
direct line, but you might have more interest in a child that's not in your
direct line so you might want to set it to a different child.

I would say just ignore it. It doesn't reflect on "this child is my
favorite" but is an aid to moving through the children in a direct line.
Even if that family isn't in your direct line, that child is in *someone's*
direct line in your Family File. The setting in Tools > Set Direct Line as
Preferred allows you to change the line and show a completely different
line as direct line and preferred. Please check out the Help file for Set:
Preferred Line for more information about this.

Setting a Child to "Preferred"

The "preferred" child is generally the child in your direct line and is
indicated by an asterisk in the left column of the grid. Knowing who the
preferred child is makes it much easier to move down your line from one
descendant to the next. You can change the preferred child by highlighting
the desired name and clicking Set to Preferred Child in the lower left
corner of the window. The asterisk in the left column of the grid then moves
to the new child's name.

Sincerely,

Sherry

A print screen of just a family and a print screen of my settings.

Greetings,

Is the asterisk in front of the child's name? Are you looking at the Family
or Pedigree view?

Can you please send me a screen shot of what you're seeing?

I don't have the option for preferred children set and I'm not seeing any
asterisks, just the plus signs at the end of the name.

Sincerely,

Sherry

Hi Sherry,

That option is deselected and still there is an * at one of the children.
The program does that himself!!

Maybe a bug?

Also the option "Indicate direct-line children in lists (bold)" is
deselected and that works as it should.

Greetings,

Irma

Irma,

Go to Options > Customize > Data Format and make sure the option "Indicate
Preferred Children in Child LIst (*) is deselected.

On that same page, if you select "Indicate direct-line children in lists
(bold)", that will highlight ony those children who are in your direct line.

Sherry

Suggestion:Hi,
now there is always a 'preffered child' marked of you want this or not. If
you add a family that is not in your direct line there is no need to have a
'preffered child' marked. I would suggest to disable this function and let
the user decide wether to use it or not.
Excuses for my bad English.

Irma
