Legacy schrijft niet rechtstreeks naar het familiebestand, dat is een
bescherming tegen stroomuitval. Legacy schrijft elke wijziging meteen naar
een werkbestand en door op te slaan of af te sluiten worden die wijzigingen
weggeschreven naar het familiebestand. Bij een stroomuitval (of langere
tijd aan laten staan van de computer zonder legacy af te sluiten) wordt dus
niet het familiebestand beschadigd maar het tijdelijk bestand. Dat geeft
mij een goed gevoel omdat het een goede bescherming is tegen
gegevensverlies.

Het lijkt me niet mogelijk dat het familiebestand beschadigd raakt als het
niet open is (behalve bij hardware schade). Het tijdelijk bestand is dan
immers al naar het familiebestand geschreven en is gewist. Ik weet niet wat
er gebeurd als een gebruiker windows afsluit zonder eerst legacy af te
sluiten. Er zal dan in ieder geval een waarschuwing van windows komen dat
er gegevensverlies dreigt.

Het zou misschien wel een goed idee zijn als een gebruiker aan zou kunnen
geven dat, bijvoorbeeld om het half uur, de tijdelijke gegevens naar het
familiebestand worden geschreven.
Van mij hoeft dat niet omdat ik regelmatig zelf de gegevens opsla als ik
veel gegevens heb ingevoerd. Dat doe ik ook in andere programma's want ik
heb te vaak gegevens verloren omdat een programma vastliep of niet correct
afsloot. In windows 7 of 8 gebeurd dat trouwens niet zo vaak meer.
