Just change [firstname] to [firstname]'s -- though you'll have to use an
over-ride for cases like "Bess' obit..."

I have an event called "obituary" that is placed after the date of death and
place the obituary text there. If all elements are known, it reads: "Bob
had an obituary published in the [newspaper] on [date] in [city]. [text of
obituary]
I would prefer to use the possessive form (Bob's), but we apparently don't
have that option.
