Paula: _Getting It Right_ by Mary H. Slawson recommends leaving a space. Because I post my database at RootsWeb though, I use the version with no space as an alternate name. Otherwise RootsWeb searches for McDowell won't find Mc Dowell. That's likely to re-start the "not a true aka" discussion, but it's the way I do it.
