That doesn't help much later on when the person is dead. I usually transcribe
whatever information is provided by a person and hope they have good sources
unless it is first-hand information not available elsewhere. A good scan of
the material would be attached as well. Years later after all these people
repositories are dead, a name and address isn't going to help much and tracking
down their original files could be impossible.

I sometimes use people as repositories where I got the information, then make a
note that I have a scan of the material in my possession. I use myself as a
repository (Boswell Archives) for items that are originals such as letters,
audio interviews, etc. that are not available elsewhere. Of course all of my
material is expected to be transferred to family members.

If the person got the information from another source, that should be noted as
well so future generations can verify the information.

Robert,

Why not treat "Robert Carneal" in the example below as the name of the
source's Repository? Then his name will appear in the source citation. You
can also include his snail mail address and/or his email address in the
Repository information.

A good source citation should provide the reader of your reports with
sufficient information to locate the specific source which you originally
used. Placing his name and an address for him in the Repository information
would provide this to any readers of your reports.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Source question

Before Source Writer, we could use something like:

McKrystal, Kathy Ann Carneal, Family Group Sheets of Carneals in Kentucky
2003 (Carneal Family Group Sheets, Indianapolis, IN). Copy in possession of
Robert Carneal

Ok, that "Copy in possession of Robert Carneal" - can we put that
in somewhere where it will appear in Source writer for Books, and Gedcoms?

Thanks.

Robert
