I would like to comment on this listserv, although I have not been subscribed
for very long.  1.  I have read many messages that were not about verifying
one's subscription, although that was the subject line.

2.  I have read many messages that appear to be totally personal and not
directed to my attention, with misleading subject lines.

3.  My inbox was already filling up way too fast for me with all kinds of spam;
now it's twice as full with individual messages from this user group.

Concluding suggestions, as one emailer to another:

1. When you're writing to thank someone for putting something on the list, or
you're suggesting something to someone to do better, but you think they're
ignorant of something everybody else already knows about, -- send it only to
that person.

2.  When your message is for everyone but it is not well described in the
subject line, -- change the subject line.

Temporarily, I have put all the Legacy User Group messages into a folder called
"geneology," but it will take me a long time to go through that file and delete
the many messages that are irrelevant to the subject line and that have no
other intrinsic interest to me.

I would like to know if others are feeling overwhelmed by the volume of
individual messages.  We could all sign a petition asking for a digest.

Are there list members who fail to change the subject of the email when using
digest mode?  Yes,
that happens.  Good list managers usually give a gentle reminder to those folks.

I don't understand why anyone would oppose providing a choice of digest mode to
list members.  That
seems odd.  Certainly, no one would be required to use digest mode if they
didn't like it.

My original response was primarily directed toward, what I perceived as a
rather one-sided view that
was posted regarding digest mode.  And, this will be my last posting regarding
the subject. :-)
