Geri, There are downsides to overwriting the file on your desktop from anywhere.
If you make it a rule first to rename the 'Myancestors.fdb' on your desktop 'Myancestors.yymmdd' before you copy across from your flash drive, then you don't overwrite it, you are making a copy alongside it with the old file able to be restored should anything have gone wrong with the copying process. Much safer. Needless to say, one should always have copies elsewhere - away from your house. Burglaries, fires, lightning or whatever could destroy untold hours of work.
