Hopefully Someone else can answer that question. I have 1800 Basic and 25 SW, 
so the inner workings of SW is new to me. Sorry.

I appreciate your assistance with this but maybe I wasn't clear enough.
What I am referring to are the choices that you have WITHIN
SourceWriter. If I go to SW to create a new source - in this case a book
- first I choose "Books" from the Type of Source list, then I use the
drop down list to choose whether the book is authored or edited, then I
select the Type of Author, and then a drop-down box appears that asks me
to Select the Medium. One of the choices of medium is "basic format". My
question is, does "basic format" in this context refer to a hard copy of
the book?
