There is a way to do it, but I will let the SQL gurus give the exact commands. I could probably figure it out, but never having been a SQL guy, and not having programed for several years, I can only give you the "pseudo code"
Using Ltools, go through the given name field. Parse each name (programmer speak for break it into pieces) and if it contains a space it may also contain an initial. Count the characters after the space. If there is only one character, add a period. If there are two or more characters no period is needed. There is the method, does somebody out there have the means? -- Jim Walton "...probe the past carefully and report it as it was, not as I wish it were" >From Evidence Explained by Elizabeth Shown Mills On Sun, Jan 17, 2010 at 1:56 AM, Ron Goodwin <[email protected]> wrote: > > Following suggestions prior to upgrading to Legacy 7.4, I ran the Potential > Problem report and found that I have over 100 individuals where I have failed > to add a period after their initial. > > Is there any way to make the corrections without having to make the changes > one by one? -- Jim Walton "...probe the past carefully and report it as it was, not as I wish it were" >From Evidence Explained by Elizabeth Shown Mills Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp
