Doug: What I often do is enclose descriptive information within privacy brackets[[]] so for example....Mary[[mother of John Doe, sister of Jane ]] and then Jane[[sister of Mary Doe]]. By using the privacy brackets, nothing shows on any reports and yet I can always see that I have no names for them. If and when I do find a surname for them I wipe out the descriptive information and the privacy brackets and I'm ready to rock...and it also saves from me mistakenly merging the wrong Mary if I happen to have ten Mary's with no surname lurking in my file.
