Well put Teresa. I agree with you whole heartedly. They are doing exactly
the same thing with other genealogy programs that they are allowing to
directly contact within the program. I just looked at RootsMagic 4. It
says RootsMagic has integrated both LDS as well as FamilySearch mechanisms
into the software. While the RootsMagic portion of these services is
complete, the external information providers are still working on finalizing
the parameters of the service. Some of this is not availible to everyone
yet.

just my thoughts Charlie

Folks - we should all take a deep breath and relax!

Also keep in mind that these genealogy programs are working in parallel with
the LDS/Family History arm that is rolling out their program worldwide.
>From what I understand (and I am non LDS and will be wafting just like the
majority of us on this LUG), the genealogy programs have to be certified as
compatible with what LDS/Family History organization is doing and they are
rolling out their system in a series of beta tests so that all the bugs will
be out of their system before it is open to all. I, for one, appreciate the
fact that the LDS/Family History organization is working cautiously and in
an organized way and not just dumping something on the market, full or
errors or duplicates - AND let's all keep in mind that they provide this
service as well as all of the online catalog, labs and bricks and mortar
facilities free of charge.

I had an opportunity to be in Salt Lake City in January to research at the
Family History Library - great resources, excellent computer facilities,
excellent free classes open to all, state of the art scanning abilities - I
was able to scan over 200 documents and put them on my flash drive - saving
paper and getting amazing copies of documents. The inputting that any of us
do either with the FamilySearch group or Ancestry does benefit all of us, in
the short run and in the long run - let's pay it forward and be patient
rather than complaining because we may not be first in line for the next big
thing. I really don't think anyone is trying to "cheat" any of us and I
don't think we should be disappointed with the content or quality of this
update. Just my two cents worth.

Teresa

Syble,
I too feel a little cheated with all the build up to the new update
but 'don't throw the baby out with the bathwater'. Legacy is still the
best family history program I have ever used in my 15 years of doing
it.

Ron,
I did update the software as soon as it became available, loaded the
nFS module thingy to check it out then felt completely frustrated that
I couldn't use it. I think Syble is right, it shouldn't have been
incorporated unless it was useable. I guess you can't please
everybody, but this sucks!

Regards
Norman
