Tony,

I do not invent a son, in fact the grandchild could be the illegitimate
daughter of the sister, depending on her age, of course. It is the case that
relationships in a census can be misdescribed (deliberately or otherwise).
In my experience a grandchild in such circumstances is often the
illegitimate child of a daughter.

I do not link them to the grandparent, but rather make a note of the
relationship for the two people and enter the facts in a ToDo, usually the
child's.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Missing Links

Greetings, listers

I'm a newbie to this list, so if I inadvertently do something untoward,
please be gentle

My question regards people who are "missing links" in familial
relationships. For example, one of my top-level ancestors appears in a
census with a sister and granddaughter living with her. I don't know which
of her sons is father to the granddaughter and I know nothing about her
parents.

However, I do want to record the existence of the sister and the
granddaughter.

The only way that I can think of, is to invent an "unknown" son and link the
granddaughter to him and to invent an unknown father and link the sister via
him. This isn't very elegant, especially when I produce an ancestor book
and have people named "unknown" floating around the place.

Does anyone have a more elegant solution?

Thanks

Tony
