For instance, I have a son of my 26th GGF who is displayed as my 25th GGU. He is the husband of my 27th GGM and father of my 26th GGF.
When calculated to 50 Blood Relationships, he is my 25th GGU, 27th GGF, 28th GGF, and 29th GGF. His closest DIRECT relationship is as 27th GGF. However, his relationship as my 25th GGU is a closer relationship than that of being my 27th GGF. Legacy chooses to display the closest relationship rather than the closest DIRECT relationship, which would be as 27th GGF. In order to have his direct relationship as 27th GGF even calculated by Legacy, the setting must be 50 Blood Relationships. Less than that, and Legacy doesn't find him as a GGF at all. This, even though Legacy does know he is a direct ancestor because his name is bolded when I Set Direct Line as Preferred, he is correctly color coded in Apply Ancestor Colors, and in tagging of direct ancestors. At least for this GGF, his wife is an easy calculation for Legacy. When both spouses have closer relationships than the direct one, I can't easily figure out what the direct relationship is as I can here. Maybe I'm being dense, but I don't know what you mean by "closest" and "closest direct" relationship.
