Ronald, Firstly can we be absolutely clear what we are talking about. User IDs are user chosen and can be found on the bottom left of the Individual's Screen, or in the Index if you have selected them for display using Index>Options>Customise Columns. These ID's can have duplicates.
The RINs are numbers which are specific to individuals and cannot have duplicates, Legacy will simply not allow it. You say: "Obviously, if I try to delete the extra records, it will delete all of them with the same ID number and then I won't have even a correct record." In the light of the above application, it would seem to me that you are actually referring to User IDs and not RINs, and with the former you can change the name to whatever you like. Perhaps you would care to clarify to exactly what you are referring.
