It seems that the problems with being able to get back out the information you enter into Legacy with regard to Addresses vs Location is not limited to the report generators. After looking through the archives, I gave the 3rd party tool GedView a test. I found that the mapping inside Legacy and entering GPS coordinates into Google Maps would show locations as expected, but GedView was not. I tried updating both the Location and Address with the same coordinates on a hunch GedView was looking for one over the other. This had no effect. I sent off an email to the maker of GedView to report this problem. His response:
"It appears Legacy is not adding the map information in the correct place. The snippet you provided has it attached to the address record instead of the place record. GedView is then performing a search for the location as it hasn't read the latitude / longitude. I will look into supporting lat/lon on the address record for the next update." Since then, I've ran a few tests, and it appears that Lat/Lon, though able to be entered into Legacy Locations, is never exported with then. Seems Addresses are the only entity/types/things that include Lat/Lon in GEDCOM exports.
