I would place the erroneous obit into an event citing all the  appropriate
source citations.  I would  also place the obit in italicized typeface.
Then after the obit I'd leave a blank line or to and begin a new paragraph
with the heading, "Researcher's Notes"   in non-italicized typeface.  Here I
would place my comments or conclusions in non-italicized typeface and
explain why I believed the obit to be wrong.

In this way anyone looking over my work would see  (1)  the obit ***as it
was published.****  They would also see the difference between the
italicized print and the non-italicized print.  And (2) they would also see
what I believed to be incorrect and why I believed it to be incorrect.
