Rick, Others seem to think that you are asking how to add new generations, however, I am unsure. If you are asking about the numbering system for the RINs, then you are correct. Each person is given a new RIN when entered into the file, the numbering is sequential. Whilst is is possible to renumber, see Tools>Renumber RINs, in my view it is a waste of time because, as you have found, they are out of kilter whenever a new person is added.
If you wish to have a system based on families, or anything else for that matter, then you need to be thinking in terms of using the User ID, which you will find on the Individuals' Screen. You can put anything in here, so you can directly relate it to hard copies should you so wish. Details are given in the comprehyensive Help Files. I need help, I have what I think is a simple question; however I cannot find the answer. I am puzzled, so I think I am missing something obvious. In the list of children under a husband and wife, how can I add a spouse to one of the children and list the children of next generation (grandchildren.) Do I have to start a new family file? If I add a new family file all the RINs and MINs begin with new numbers, which throws off the filing system. Please help.
