The advantage of typing them is for the content to show up in Reports. If I type out an obit (and it's not that hard) it becomes part of a report for that person. What's the point otherwise?
Printing photos of source documents in the Legacy reports, where that's an option, will give you a small thumbnail, not a full size document that anyone could read anyway. Having the images attached to Legacy makes them immediately available for viewing.
