But those lists (like this one) are topic limited for a reason, so people
can participate in discussions on one subject without reading about
everything.    There are plenty of lists that would serve the purpose you
describe.   Check out this one at rootsweb for example.   According to its
description it "is a mailing list for people who are interested in any or
all aspects of genealogy, anywhere in the world".

The only problem with those message boards and mailing lists is the same as
this one-
Each seems to be topic limited and there is no board/list that I have found
that allows a free ranging discussion of genealogy in general.

Is anyone aware of such a board/list anywhere?

It is all well and good to say take it somewhere else but could you at least
name one or two boards where such discussions would be welcomed?
