Good! It won't impact what you do (if you had answered yes, it might get a bit more difficult). This is essentially the same problem as was discussed recently regarding step-children, except you will need to select Relationship as Adopted instead of Step. See this thread:

(I'm assuming she wasn't married at the time and you don't know who Adam's biological father was?). Then you link Adam to James and his second wife as their son and set the relationship to father (and presumably also mother) as Adopted. Depending upon what you've already attempted to do, you may need to unlink things first and try again.
