It has been explained numerous times. Aside from the fact that HTML emails can hide a multitude of viruses, some of the LUG subscribers are on limited access accounts. HTML takes up a lot more "Bandwidth" resulting in extra fees for those subscribers. It is also against the list rules and the list owner makes the rules and can ban anyone who repeatedly violates the rules. Their sandbox, their rules. However, in my opinion, the most important reason is that a lot of people filter emails in HTML straight to the trash without ever seeing them.
