I never see any Read Receipts from anyone, and that includes the members
of the LUG. Whilst I would agree with you that the use of Read Receipts
in the context of a mailing list is impolite, I would suggest that the
Etiquette notes need to include the annoyance.

At the same time, people that are annoyed can always set their mail
readers up to both a) never request a read receipt, and b) never reply
to a request for a read receipt. With Firefox this is very easy to do.

And, not to let the original offender off lightly, even though you may
'need' to use Read Receipts for your business, the LUG is not a part of
your business and should not be subjected to your peccadillo. It is just
as easy for you to set your system up so that Read Receipts are not
inflicted on the group.
