I've been watching all the replies on this subject and learning a few things
along the way. The single-click or double-click on a blank parent line is
certainly interesting. But here is what else I learned about the double-click
trick. Assume you try this on a single person that you wanted to add a sibling
to. You double-click the blank parent line and now you are looking at the
"phantom parents" family view where you can add all the siblings you want. At
this point, you change your mind and decide that you don't want to add any
siblings. Just click on the one known child name that you had previously and
then return to his/her family view. Everything looks the same but what has
changed is you are now free to right click on the person and "add a brother" or
"add a sister" --- choices that were previously grayed out. You can even
"unlink from parents" --- also something that had been previously grayed out.
So, in effect, what Dennis had stated several messages ago, Legacy MUST create
a marriage in order for you to add any siblings. All the double-click trick
does is by-pass the chance to enter any names. I'm sure the "phantom parents"
are internally entered as "UNKNOWN" within Legacy. And sure enough, try a
Ancestor Book Report for one of the children and it will print out as
"son/daughter or UNKNOWN and UNKNOWN" even though there is/are absolutely
nothing entered in the name areas for the parents.

And if you've been playing around with your family file and now have created a
set of "phantom parents", I think the easy way of getting things back to normal
is to merely right click on the known child and select "Unlink from parents".
Then you'll get a small window asking you to confirm the unlink from parents
"UNKNOWN" and "UNKNOWN". Selecting yes should remove the phantom parents.

All a very interesting trick.
