I use all flavors of the same place as date required, I then use the AniMap
program to assist in creating Chronology entries for county changes, included
in each states' Timeline. I also have the timelines for the states of
'Northwest Territories', 'Franklin' and 'Sandwich Islands'. When I have a
person who moved to different states, and the counties changed, using example;
part of the timelines of Virginia, Northwest, Ohio and Kentucky will be used in
one person's report, with the appropriate time/place sources and locations. In
each county location, I have put all the changes for that county boundaries, in
the location notes.
Since each note can print in the place list for the reports, sending the
chronology for 20 -30 people, should include the location notes.
So I use the location as it was, and the place changes are in the notes.

How do you handle county names that change? The county was Jones and then
became Smith. I have some that have three names and one that has had four. In
no case are all records under the same county name so I need to indicate the
various names.

I have been doing Jones nka Smith but that isn't recognized as a legitimate
county.
