I found myself in a similar situation this week when I prepared a GEDCOM file for uploading to Genes Reunited. I didn't want living people in the file, even to acknowledge that they exist. First, I made a copy of my file and worked with that. I was wanting to include only people I'd marked with Tag 2, which was already set, so I took steps to delete everyone else - I won't bore you with those details, since it's not part of what we're talking about here. Next, I did a search for all living people. Search > Look for whom? = Individual, Where to look = Living, How to look = Equal to, What to look for = YES > Create list. Then, in the Search List, click on Options > Advanced Tagging. Select an unused Tag (I used 6) and set that number in the box "Make changes on #". And the click on the "Everyone in Search List" button. Now, everyone in the file who is marked as Living has Tag 6 (or your tag of choice) set. You can now go to Tools > Advanced Deleting and delete everyone with that tag number. Make sure you change the tag number - it always starts at #1 and it would be easy to forget to alter the number if you were using a different one. Another good argument for working on a copy of your file, so you can start again if you make a mistake. When I was doing this exercise, I deleted one-by-one - I wanted to retain myself, my partner and his parents to tie his ancestors to mine, so did not delete those people. You can make it delete all the selected people in one hit if you prefer - I could have removed the tag on those four people first and then done a mass delete, if I'd thought of it at the time. What I was left with was a file containing the people I wanted to include in the GEDCOM, ready to export. And my original file was untouched. When I exported I selected to "Suppress details for living people" and "Change name to "Living"", then after I'd uploaded the file to Genes Reunited quickly altered those four remaining living people to appear as I wanted (ie, put my own name in for me, and "Living SURNAME" for the other three, slightly incorrect birth years, and country of birth only) so it made sense to others viewing the tree. I could have done that in the GEDCOM file before uploading, instead, but this seemed the simplest.
