In addition to 'c:\Legacy\Data\Pictures' , I use the following subdirectories:

DOCS - for scans of documents.
FORMS - for PDF forms that I have created such as family group sheets. When I
get them back the go in here.
MULTIMEDIA - videos, mainly of interviews
NOTES - Documents that do not fit neatly into another category. Usually my own
writing such as transcripts of interviews and conversations.
RESOURCES - Digital copies of books, etc.
SCANS - Initial repository of any scan before I photoshop it (if necessary).
Documents in here are waiting for their final resting place somewhere else.

Under PICTURES I have subdirectories for picture collections acquired from
other people. (I have cousins who have been researching their branch of the
family for a lot longer than I have.)

Subject: [LegacyUG] Digital Sources Added to Legacy

One of the earlier messages alluded to the fact that his ‘paper’ sources were no
onger being kept but had been incorporated into the Legacy system as digital
ntries. I have 1000+ paper sources in 18 large notebooks that take’s up an
wful lot of space. I also have all of these sources scanned and have added them
y PC in two digital folders entitled ‘MASTER’ and ‘DETAIL’. These digital
ources have been scanned into folders, and/or copy/paste actions taken, and
ontain ‘.doc’, ‘.pdf’, ‘.jpg’, ‘.bmp’, ‘.tiff’, etc. At present these
MASTER' and 'DETAIL' files are located under 'c:\Legacy\Data\Master' and
c:\Legacy\Data\Detail', so I already have them digitized there for viewing and
ther needs.
I have been contemplating going the digital route for all these sources and
dding them to the Legacy program. Much as a picture is added for a specific
erson, the 'file' could be added also. Could the author elaborate on the ’how’
e did it or the recommended method of doing so, or perhaps point me to a site
hat discusses this process? I’m looking for a recommended method., including
ome pitfalls I should be aware of in doing such a large task.
In the case of pictures, I have 2500+ in a digital file in
'c:\Legacy\Data\Pictures'
hat works as the manual states. Would the system work equally well by adding
he digital source 'file' as a separate entry into the 'pictures'? I could see
here such an addition could get pretty unweildy over time if each source was
dded to all the people it addresses. For example, I have one book I use as a
eference for some hundreds of people and adding the source to each party as a
art of the picture gallery could get pretty wild. Anyway, I'm seeking some
uggestions and guidance on the feasibility or adviseability of such a project.
