Some time in the 1600s Gedeon Merlot came to New Amsterdam and later
located in New Jersey. From what I can see, all the Merlots and Marlatts
(a later spelling), stayed in the USA for at least four or five
generations. Considering the birth rate in those days, by the time we
get to the fourth generation, there were a lot of Marlatts spread around
New Jersey, and probably the rest of the USA too.

Four or five, not sure yet, members of the fourth generation of Gedeon's
descendants and possibly one from the fifth generation all came to
Ontario, Canada in the early 1800s. So by that point, the Marlatts who
emigrated were related distantly, being fourth or fifth cousins.

I want to print one Descendants book (The Descendants of Gedeon Marlatt
Who Came To Canada) for Gedeon Merlot's descendants who came to Canada,
but don't want to have to enter the names of all the ancestors leading
back to Gedeon. This would be the only way I can think of to link them
all so that they're printed all in one book.

I've done all the research personally. It started as a vague link to my
g-g grandmother who married into the Marlatt family in an effort to
discover her parents' names. By the time I came to the conclusion that
finding her parents' names was next to impossible, I'd done a fair
amount of research into the Marlatt family and figured I might as well
complete it to donate to various local genealogical and historical
libraries.

So if someone comes across this book at a library and is trying to find
out the ancestors of their grandfather Marlatt, I don't want them to
have to look through four or five indexes of names, if I publish a
separate book for each Canadian immigrant. It would be much easier for
research purposes to lump the lot of them together particularly in one
index.

The notations I was referring to would be in the General tab for each
Canadian immigrant in Family view.

Hope everything is clear.

Helen
