Brian, This thread seems to have gone on for a while without you getting anywhere. I am not going to repeat the advice already given, but perhaps I might help clear up some points.
A previous post has given examples of the size ( Kb) of an A4 image using different types of file eg. BMP, JPG, GIF. You have not said which you are using nor what you're scanning. I assume documents. JPGs are perfectly alright for the documents which you use with Legacy (as distinct to Master copies), and as was shown before have fewer KBs than BMP. You do not need to store very large images, usually something in the region of 600 - 1000 pixels width/height will be plenty. You have not said either whether you are scanning in greyscale or colour; if in colour then convert to greyscale - IrfanView can do this for you.
