I use the "default fonts of Times Roman and Arial and <Stretch fonts when resizing> ticked. Fonts on my 24" widescreen behave curiously, but can be made quite visible.
My experience in (Win7 64-bit 1920x1200 resolution) has been that the, font-size, font-height calculation also factors in the WIDTH of the current pop-up dialog/screen [in contrast to what Brian has written]. Sometimes just stretching the "window" horizontally has helped me. [an experiment is to make the window tall, but then grab the right edge and move it left and right.] Results do vary whether you are on a 1-line data-entry field or a multi-line text entry box. On my setup, for the text boxes (e.g. "notes & sentence override" for an event), I have found that the font-size calculation is done prior to the resize of the window. So, if I size the window how I want, then click on the window's maximize icon then use the windows restore down icon, I have a "large print" version of the text-box contents. This can then be "corrected" by using the [Zoom] button (then <automatic> ticked; then [ok]) which often appears near the text boxes. Sometimes a second [Zoom] & [Ok] are needed, if Legacy had stored an intermediate window size. The window created by the [Zoom] button reports the "Current Font size". I have to visit the [Zoom] window usually twice, to get the number to settle on a steady value. -Christian -----Original Message----- From: Ron Ferguson [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, January 03, 2011 7:27 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Cant format font size Inta, You may find that you really have to make a big jump in the minimum size of the font before you see any effect - I had to increase the size to 26px before I saw any change. Someone has suggested using 2 monitors and using Legacy from the trouble free monitor. The whole (perhaps naive) point of the exercise was to have a bigger screen and hence larger and easier to read words. Hmmmm. My minimum is set to 6 (the default I think) but I get much larger than that when I maximise my screen. Didn't that work either? Ron Ferguson http://www.fergys.co.uk/ -----Original Message----- From: Inta Warner Sent: Sunday, January 02, 2011 10:48 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [LegacyUG] Cant format font size I recently changed to a 23 in monitor. I have had 64bit Windows7 for quite a while and found no problem with changing to a font which was easily readable for old eyes. The monitor was supposed to help! Instead I cannot get any of the font sizes to change. Colours and font types are not a problem but the size can't seem to be changed much. I finally managed to get something vaguely readable but when the program was reopened next morning I was back to something resembling a size 8 font. I read in the archives that Legacy "doesn't like" custom settings for font size (set in Control Panel). I have mine set to the medium font size. I haven't had problems with any other programs yet.
