Ron, you are right that professional genealogists are not banned from publishing at all. Professionals are not to download from the internet, add info, reupload, etc. Before publishing info, I wanted to make sure that someone new to it would consider the options. Some people don't realize that book publishing and other options are viable options or that there are standards that professional genealogists would use. I appreciate learning from others and hearing other options so that I can weigh my options so I figured it might be a good thing to interject here on occasion.
Elizabeth Shown Mills' book "Professional Genealogy" notes the standards of ICAPGen, the Board for Certification of Genealogists, and the National Genealogical Society. In it she makes the point that if copying more than 3 paragraphs of info from a book etc, you should get permission to reprint. That goes for all obituaries and other things. Elizabeth Shown Mills wrote "Evidence Explained" which is the standard for Legacy's Source Writer.
