My soapbox <G> putting your genealogy online at freepages at rootsweb seems to be the surest way so far, short of the Wayback Machine, to keep your research safe.
You can put pictures there and long transcriptions, they don't want plain trees there since they can go to World Connect (where you can keep people from downloading your tree).
