Paula:

If you click on the book icon for any individual you'll get a list of Assigned
Sources. Provided there are parents listed for the person, you'll see lines
for Relationship to Father and Relationship to Mother. There you can add any
sources that support the relationship. This stands out fairly well in reports
produced by Legacy, but it doesn't seem to transfer in a GEDCOM (the outdated
GEDCOM format simply may not have tags for these fields).

To avoid having information about an unproven relationship lost or buried among
source notes, I have a generic Master Source simply titled NOTE: I use that
with text added such as "John's relationship to parents is speculative based on
. . ." That note is attached to the individual's Name field (as well as to the
relationship fields) and I always leave it as the top source citation there so
that it transfers with GEDCOMs and is readily apparent to anyone who reads the
source notes in a report.

Needless to say, I don't use this method frivously but I do a good deal of work
with others on a geographically-limited one-name study and a certain amount of
speculation is sometimes appropriate there.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Relationship field where? was: Possible link to a
family

I realize the original post is old, but I have just re-subscribed and am trying
to "catch up"...?!

What caught my eye was the mention of "the Relationship field(s)" in Kristen's
post below. I don't believe I've heard of this field for an Individual before.

Can someone enlighten me? (I've checked Help. I'm on v 7.5.0.40.)

I do have a parentage that is questionable, so this field could be
useful to me. Right now I just have a note in ALL CAPS in the Research Notes
field.

(Now that I'm re-reading Kirsten's post, I'm not sure what she means by "add a
note to the Name field" either... ?)

Thanks in advance,

Jane:

Most of the time I create a new folder for the person in XP and that's where
I stick all the relevant information and notes until something clicks.
These are all kept in a Stray folder under the appropriate surname. With a
few, when I'm pretty sure where they go due to circumstantial evidence, I
attach them and >>>>> add a note to the Name field saying that the link is
tentative. I could put that note in >>>>>>>>>> the Relationship field(s), but
then
it's buried in a string of source notes and I like to have it at the very
top.
