Michele,

You make my point, which is basically that should a location be published
then the full location should be used. I agree that using an abbreviated
version in the short Location is fine if not used in publications.

You location is not quite correct btw.. St John the Baptist is the name of
the (parish?) church in the Parish of Eldersfield, which we would write at
St John the Baptist, Eldersfield Parish, Worcester, England. However, we
would not normally include the word "Parish" in the location, or it could be
written St John the Baptist Parish Church, Eldersfield, Worcester, England.
The Church would also be known as Eldersfield Parish Church, in which case
the location could be written Eldersfield Parish Church, Worcester, England
(it might not show up on the maps if this format is used).

The Chapman Codes are the abbreviations for the countries and counties
within the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man and the
Channel Isles, so your address would be St John the Baptist Parish Church,
Eldersfield, WOR, ENG. Probably not very comprehensible for many of the
English either :-)

When you print a report, you have the option of using the long location or
the short. It would depend on my audience on which I would choose. I like
that flexibility. The problem is, if you choose to use the short location
but haven't edited every location to have a short location your report will
look pretty funny :)

I do not know much about English locations at all. I only have a couple in
my file (and they are probably wrong). Here is one that I have...

St. John the Baptist Parish, Eldersfield, Worcestershire, England

Michele,

Please consider that should you ever wish you publish, abbreviations instead
of full locations can be at best be meaningless, and perhaps actually
misleading for those not from the country, or even the general area to which
the location may refer. Would you understand, for example, the Chapman codes
for England?
