Ok, I think this was might be a Legacy bug, but I'll let the support people decide that.
Here's what I think I've learned: 1. To my original question, Legacy seems to be citing sources attached to the child's Name event when it prints the parent's Individual Report. 2. There seems to be something fishy going with the report generation process for Inividual Reports because it's not picking up sources assigned to names correctly. If you want to know more, read on... As part of investigating this, I created an Individual Report for the *child*, and lo and behold, the SSDI source was cited or the child's *name* event. Weird, since on the Assigned Sources page, there were no sources for the name event. And, as mentioned originally, the SSDI source, among several others, is assigned to Unspecified. So, I decided I'd just remove the SSDI source from the child once and for all to see what would happen. Sure enough, the SSDI source is not cited for her name anymore. That was good, but read on... Next, I assigned a randomly selected source to the name event for this child. Then I created an Individual Report for her, expecting to see the source cited for her name on the report. Wrong!!! No sources were cited in the report. Uh oh. To make sure I wasn't just missing the boat, I decided to attach a source to her AKA event (she has one), and see if that got into the report. It did!!! Just like expected.
