At the end of the article there is an important paragraph:

"The conflicting information will only appear as I've described above if you 
actually record the conflicting data as an "Alt. Birth" event. I've written 
about this a couple of times in past articles: click here and here for the 
instructions."

Yes, for an "Alt. Birth" event to appear you would have had to add an Alt. 
Birth at some point. I think at some point, maybe at version 7's release (or 
before) the Alt events were added as defaults to the master event list. They 
could be removed if you use the Purge Unused option in the Master Event List.

My drop down list does not contain ANY alt events either, It doesn't really 
matter to me since such changes are global I would never surrender any of the 5 
primary fields globally. Geoff should have mentioned the fact that such a 
change is not local. I liked someone's suggestion of an * when an alt birth or 
death event exists.
